ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Andre Dwight Williams (also known as “Fats”), 36, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced late Friday to 14 years in prison and five years of supervised release for federal charges of conspiring to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin to individuals in and around Culpeper and Orange counties in Virginia. Williams, who pleaded guilty on February 6, 2015 and had prior drug distribution convictions, admitted to selling heroin to dozens of individuals from Orange and Culpeper counties who traveled through the Eastern District of Virginia to meet him.

Mark R. Herring, Attorney General of Virginia; Dana J. Boente, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; and Karl C. Colder, Special Agent in Charge for Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Washington Field Division, made the announcement after Williams was sentenced by U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis, III.  Virginia Assistant Attorney General and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc J. Birnbaum prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States following the investigation.

“This sentence is another step forward in the fight against the heroin epidemic that is plaguing the Commonwealth. This is an especially important case for Orange and Culpeper counties where law enforcement has told me the influx of heroin has been particularly severe,” said Attorney General Herring. “This case serves as a testament of the importance of collaboration between local, state, and federal partners to effectively combat heroin in Virginia.”

According to court records, Williams admitted to conspiring to distribute between one and three kilograms of heroin in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia between 2010 and 2014.  Williams regularly sold heroin to between 30 and 40 customers who traveled from Culpeper and Orange counties to meet him in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.  Court records show that Williams was previously convicted of Distribution of Heroin in 2000 and Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin in 2001 in Washington, D.C.
