MONTREAL — Police investigate toddler GHB overdose. Quebec City police are investigating after a toddler was brought to hospital on Sunday night after an apparent drug overdose.

The three-year-old boy accidentally ingested GHB, widely known as a date rape drug, at around 6:30 p.m. at his aunt’s home in the Val-Bélair neighbourhood of the city.

Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the child unconscious and having difficulty breathing.

He was taken to the medical centre at Laval University, where he is recovering and no longer considered to be in danger.

Authorities arrested the child’s aunt and father. The father had been living with his sister for about a month. Both were later released and are expected to appear in court. The child’s mother has been contacted.

The toddler will remain in the custody of youth protection services until police have a clearer understanding of the circumstances around the incident.
