Cocaine was found in the system of a 5-year-old boy whose parents had been arrested on drug charges in Moorpark, according to the Ventura County sheriff’s office.
Authorities say that when Marco and Sandy Cuevas were stopped and arrested Thursday in the east Ventura County community, a half-pound of cocaine was sitting in the back seat — along with their young son.
Marco Cuevas had several ounces of cocaine on him, and his wife Cuevas was carrying more than $10,000 in suspected drug proceeds, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities said they searched the couple’s Sylmar home and found hundreds of pills, several pounds of marijuana, $75,000 in cash, nearly 3,000 rounds of ammunition and more than a dozen guns. The two were booked into county jail on charges including conspiracy to sell cocaine and possession of cocaine for sale.In a statement released Friday, the Ventura County sheriff’s office said its investigators had found that cocaine being used and sold by teenagers and young adults in the eastern part of the county originated with Marco Cuevas, and that the 31-year-old was also involved in selling guns. He’s being held on $1-million bail.
Both Marco and Sandy Cuevas also face of child endangerment charges.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Don Aguilar said Saturday that although the child tested positive for cocaine, he was not hospitalized.
“We just happened to test him because he was found so close to the drugs in the car,” Aguilar said.
