In the United States, over 15 million people abuse prescription drugs. This is more than the combined number of people who reported using cocaine, hallucinogens, inhalants and heroin. Prescription drugs account for the largest percentage of deaths from drug overdosing.
The dangers of addiction to and abuse of prescription medications are widely-known and accepted. However, most people do not realize that even a one-time dose of some medications can have life-long or lethal side effects.
